Front Ridge
Private Residence
Penobscot, Maine

A rural hillside residence in Downeast Maine serves as a model for regenerating fragmented native plant communities and restoring damaged site systems. Sensible land management practices guide the rehabilitation of expansive areas of mown lawn. Spaces carved from the post-agricultural landscape overlook stunning panoramic views of Acadia National Park, antique farm structures, pastures, and hay fields. Shrub and perennial beds, an orchard, and groves of native trees encircle the house. Moody patches of fog regularly blanket the property and the focus turns inward. Brilliant seasonal drama is heightened along mown paths meandering through a rich tapestry of managed native meadow.
